Danail Rachev, conducting
Bella Hristova, violin

GEORGE ANTHEIL | Serenade
MOZART | Violin Concerto No. 5
SCHUBERT | Symphony No. 5

It’s a half-step between Mozart’s A Major concerto (in the magnificent hands of Bella Hristova, making her third appearance with us) and Schubert’s B-flat Major Symphony. But if you were to ask American composer George Antheil during World War II about his music, he would not have provided an answer. This multi-disciplinary genius teamed up with actress (and another multi-disciplinary genius) Heddy Lamar to develop an encoding system for guiding Allied torpedoes using musical frequencies. It became the foundation for how telecommunications work today.

Danail Rachev returns to bestow his special conducting gifts upon all of it.
