Five Days with Step Afrika!
This trip was presented as part of our 2021-2022 season and is not currently available.
Suggested for grades 5-8
Five Days With Step Afrika! is a highly interactive and engaging virtual arts education program, based on Step Afrika’s more than twenty-five years of performing and teaching students across the world.
Step Afrika! blends percussive dance styles practiced by historically African American fraternities and sororities, traditional African dances, and an array of contemporary dance and art forms into a cohesive, compelling artistic experience. Performances are much more than dance shows; they integrate songs, storytelling, humor, and audience participation. Step Afrika! promotes stepping as an educational tool for young people, focusing on teamwork, academic achievement, and cross-cultural understanding.
Your trip includes a series of five sequential videos:
- What is Stepping?
- The Performance, Act 1
- The Performance, Act 2
- Stepping with Step Afrika!
- Meet the Artists of Step Afrika!
Additional opportunities to be announced later in the semester.
