And today, having a renewed appreciation for the power of music, we emerge with beauty in our lives. This Thursday, join CMS for the third New Milestones concert, with works by Jeffrey Mumford, Clarence Barlow, Julius Eastman, and the New York premiere of a work by Salina Fisher.

The American Songbook concert series will return with A World of Voices, featuring artists from across the globe. Opening the series is the leading voice of Garifuna culture and musical tradition, Aurelio Martínez and The Garifuna Soul Band. Several artists will play newly released material and offer sneak peeks of works still in creation, including the soul and rock singer Natu Camara, acclaimed Guatemalan singer-songwriter Gaby Moreno, and musical theatre writer Jaime Lozano in Songs by an Immigrant featuring an all-star lineup of Latinx Broadway performers. Chamber Music Society Returns (Part Two): Bringing Down the House
Premiering Friday, April 15, 10pm, then on demand

Following the success of opening night, CMS gets back to work as it continues to mount the 2021-2022 fall season, complete with a number of ambitious projects and daunting challenges. Part Two focuses on gathering over a dozen wind players for whom performing was considered taboo earlier in the pandemic and concluding with the six-city tour of Bach’s timeless Brandenburg Concertos. After ten days of setbacks on the road, including inclement weather, travel delays, and cataclysmic malfunctions, the resilient artists return home to New York to perform these Brandenburg Concertos in Alice Tully Hall, where new questions arise amid a COVID resurgence.

Sounds & Stories continues with a composer portrait of Syrian-American clarinetist Kinan Azmeh. Hosted by David Hyde Pierce and directed by filmmaker Tristan Cook, Far From Home explores Azmeh’s concept of “home” through three locations of personal significance, including Beirut, Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music in New Hampshire, and his hometown of Damascus.
