Floriana Frassetto, Co-Founder and Artistic Director of MUMMENSCHANZ, who at 69 years young still tours with the troupe, answered some questions for us about MUMMENSCHANZ and their newest work you & me. Read on to learn more…
Q: MUMMENSCHANZ are called the “Musicians of Silence.” What does that mean?
A: We don’t use any sound or words in our show. The audience has to rely on the rhythm of the movement that the troupe creates, rather than sound, to try to imagine what these characters might be feeling.
Q: What is significant about performing without sound?
A: To give the freedom of imagination.
Q: What is your current show you & me about?
A: This show is a series of sketches that describes daily emotions. “You & me” means the relation between the audience and the performers on stage.
Q: What is the process of bringing your works to life?
A: Finding the materials, developing the right shapes. And then improvising the movement and hours on end of rehearsals.
Q: What is your favorite puppet or prop to perform with?
A: All of them! But especially the intermission mask with which I can play with the audience.
Experience MUMMENSCHANZ’s you & me at The Performing Arts Center, Purchase College on Sunday, February 23 at 3pm.
