Music on the Strait presents
Music on the Strait celebrates chamber music in the singularly beautiful environment of the Olympic Peninsula and Salish Sea. Founded in Port Angeles in 2018 by locally-raised musicians James Garlick and Richard O’Neill in partnership with the Port Angeles Symphony, Music on the Strait aims to share chamber music, both its traditions and its emerging voices, through community programming and educational outreach. With 2022 Special Guest Artist Jeremy Denk.

To celebrate opening night, Music on the Strait celebrates the artistry of Demarre McGill, principal flute of the Seattle Symphony, and one of the greatest flautists of his generation. We are also pleased to welcome back Port Angeles favorites Elisa Barston and Jeremy Denk for César Franck’s fiery and tumultuous Piano Quintet.

Jeremy Denk leads us on a musical journey from Mozart’s inventive G major sonata for Piano and Violin (not Violin and Piano, interestingly) to Robert Schumann’s enchanting Piano Quartet in E-flat. The dynamic Turkish cellist Efe Baltacıgil joins Denk for Beethoven’s fifth and last cello sonata.

Jeremy Denk shares music and words from his New York Times bestselling memoir, Every Good Boy Does Fine: A Love Story, In Music Lessons. This will include a performance of Schubert’s lyrical “Arpeggione” Sonata with Co-Artistic Director Richard O’Neill along with other solo piano works announced from the stage. This will be a musical afternoon like no other!
